Main application: Applications: Compound steam 460 and 680 oils are ideally suited for all steam engines working up to pressures of 175lbs per square inch. With typical steam temperatures up to 450ºF (230ºC). In addition to cylinders, it is recommended for valve chests, slides, linkages and general lubrication by means of mechanical applicators, atomisers or oil can. Compound steam 1000 has been specifically formulated for use in non-condensing models and with the co-operation of Stanley Steam Car owners. This advanced formulation ensures not only ensures the correct lubrication of cylinders but also good visibility in the ‘Winker’. This product can be used in all steam engines working up to pressures in excess of 250lbs per square inch, with either saturated or superheated steam. Meets the specification requirements of British Rail schedule number MT276. Important Note: These oils must not be used where the steam is being recovered for use as a boiler or process feed and complete separation from oil is essential.

Description

COMPOUND STEAM CYLINDER OILS
460,680 and 1000
Description:
These oils are for use in most Locomotives and Stationary engines working with saturated steam. They are produced from special cylinder stock treated with fatty compounds and particularly Tallow to provide superior lubrication even if wet conditions are encountered. The fatty compounds form emulsions which spread the oil on the internal surfaces, providing a strong lubricating film where needed to protect bores and valves. This is particularly important where very wet steam has to be handled at the cylinders, or water treatment chemicals are carried within the steam.
